¿Como se trata el glaucoma?

El tratamiento del glaucoma dependerá del tipo de glaucoma que tiene. Cada glaucoma se genera por diferentes causas, su pronostico a largo plazo es diferente y por lo tanto su comportamiento y tratamiento será diferente. Sin embargo todos los tratamientos para el glaucoma tienen un objetivo en común: bajar la presión intraocular. El éxito del tratamiento dependerá de escoger el tratamiento mas correcto para el tipo de glaucoma que usted padece.

El tratamiento medico consiste en aplicar gotas anti-glaucomatosas. El mecanismo de acción de las gotas consiste en lo siguiente:

• Disminuir la producción de humor acuoso en la cámara anterior del ojo así disminuyendo la presión intraocular

• Aumento el flujo uveoescleral (un espacio alterno para el drenaje del humor acuoso) así disminuyendo la presión intraocular.

• Cambiando la morfología del cuerpo iridiano para abrir el drenaje fisiológico (denominado malla trabecular) utilizado como tratamiento temporal para algunos casos de glaucoma de ángulo estrecho.

Medical treatment of glaucoma consist on applying glaucoma eyedrops. The mechanism of action consist in the following:

• Lowering the production of aqueos humor in the anterior chamber thereby lower eye pressure.

• Increasing uveoscleral flow (an alternate space for aqueous humor outflow.

• Changing the morphology of the iris body to increase drainage outflow.
